AECL to speak at public Chamber of Commerce meeting
Representatives of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited will be the guest-speakers at the next general meeting of the Atikokan Chamber of Commerce Wednesday evening, Oct. 24 at the high school. Chamber members as well as members of the general public are invited to attend.
The presentation will include slides and an update on the organization’s research activity at Forsberg Lake this summer. As well, the company representatives will outline the research activity planned for the future, followed by a question and answer period.
The AECL presentation will follow a short version of the Chamber’s regular business meeting, president Jim Clark said.
Although the Chamber has no official stand on whether or not AECL should be conducting research into the possible burial of nuclear waste in the bedrock of the Canadian Shield, its members have their own varied opinions on this matter, Clark said.
“We feel it’s our responsibility to learn more about the research project in the Atikokan area,” he said, “and we’d like to share this information with the general public.”
The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. in rooms three and four at the high school.
