Chamber of Commerce important link to community

“We want to promote better communication between the downtown business community and those on the fringes.”

Janet Brown is the new president of the Atikokan Chamber of Commerce, and heads what she terms as a “good selection of directors.”

They are Barb Rees, vice president; Pat Auger, treasurer; John Jordbro, past president; directors Debbie Johnson, Lester Glantz, Bob Martin, Bruce Staines, Jim Clark, John Covello, Dave McAllister and Clay Shannon.

Ideas needed

Brown would like the Chamber to maintain a high profile by identifying and achieving attainable goals within the community.

She also pointed out that at one time, when the mines were open, local businesses were secondary industry. Now that they have closed, the local business is the primary industry in the community.

“If you have ideas approach the Chamber,” says Brown.

According to Brown there will be general meetings where members can be heard and ideas discussed.

The chamber can be an important link in the community, but it can only have an impact with support from the business sector.
